The City of Encinitas Environmental Advisory Commission was established by, and reports to, the City Council. The Mission Statement of the Commission is:

The Encinitas Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC) shall advise the Encinitas City Council by making recommendations on policy, programs, and regulations related to the city’s environment. Additionally, the EAC shall work to raise public awareness and promote a shared environmental vision by building partnerships between city departments, residents, and businesses. In carrying out its mission, the EAC shall encourage long-term, holistic thinking about environmental issues including, but not limited to, air and water quality, pollution prevention, beach and wetlands restoration, solid waste reduction/recycling, energy, and transportation.
The Commission is comprised of seven members of the community. The inaugural duties of the Commission are to:
- Develop an Environmental Policy for City Council approval

Regular meetings are currently held the second Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Encinitas Civic Center. The Civic Center is located at 505 South Vulcan Avenue, at the southeast corner of Vulcan and “D” Street, directly across from the Coaster Station.

Join representatives from Scripps Institute of Oceanography, City of Santa Monica, and Regional Water Quality Control Board in learning about the magnitude and impacts of marine debris, discuss possible solutions and barriers to reduction, and becoming involved in steps to resolve the issue.

June 19 Environmental Film: “What’s On Your Plate?” – 2pm-4pm, FREE
Come check out this witty and provocative documentary about kids and food politics. Filmed over the course of one year, the film follows two eleven-year-old multi-racial city kids as they explore their place in the food chain. The girls address questions regarding the origin of the food they eat, how it’s cultivated, how many miles it travels from the harvest to their plate, how it’s prepared, who prepares it and what happens with the packaging and leftovers.
